Does removing GPS metadata reduce photo quality? ▾
No. FileScrub only strips metadata blocks — the image pixels are untouched. The output file is visually identical to the original.
Can I remove GPS from screenshots or images downloaded from the web? ▾
Screenshots and web-downloaded images usually have no GPS data to begin with. Run them through the tool anyway to confirm — the Metadata Viewer will show exactly what’s there.
What photo formats are supported? ▾
JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP. HEIC (iPhone photos) needs to be converted to JPG first — most photo apps do this automatically when you export.
Does removing GPS also remove face detection tags or auto-generated captions? ▾
No. This tool targets location data specifically. Use the Universal Scrubber to strip every metadata field including face tags, AI captions, and edit history.
Is my photo uploaded to your servers? ▾
Never. FileScrub is 100% client-side — all EXIF processing happens in your browser via JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device.
Will social media sites see my GPS data if I forgot to remove it? ▾
Most platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter) strip GPS automatically on upload. But apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, direct file sharing, email attachments, and Google Photos do NOT strip it. Always scrub before sharing outside major social platforms.
