Does cleaning a PDF change the document content? ▾
No. FileScrub only modifies the metadata layer — text, images, formatting, hyperlinks, and form fields are preserved exactly.
What file types are supported? ▾
PDF, DOCX (Word), XLSX (Excel), PPTX (PowerPoint), and ODT (LibreOffice). Legacy .doc, .xls, .ppt files should be converted to the modern format first.
Can attorneys and consultants safely share cleaned documents with clients? ▾
Yes — this is one of the most common use cases. Removing metadata prevents inadvertent disclosure of author names, prior draft comments, and revision timestamps, which is required by many bar associations and consulting firm policies.
Does it remove digital signatures? ▾
No. Digital signatures are preserved. Only descriptive metadata (author, title, XMP tags, revision history) is stripped.
Will Word or Acrobat still open the cleaned file? ▾
Yes. The output remains a valid PDF/DOCX/XLSX/PPTX that opens in any compatible reader with no warnings.
Is my document ever uploaded to your servers? ▾
