What can I use the Metadata Viewer for? ▾
Auditing files before sharing, learning what your camera or phone embeds, verifying that a scrub actually worked, or investigating a suspicious file you received.
Does the viewer modify my file? ▾
No. It is read-only — the file is parsed in memory and displayed. To actually remove metadata, send the file to the GPS Remover, PDF Cleaner, or Universal Scrubber.
Can I see the metadata of a file someone else sent me? ▾
Yes, and this is one of the most valuable uses. You can see where their photo was taken, what device produced it, and what edits they made — all without uploading anything.
What if the viewer shows a field I don’t understand? ▾
Common sensitive fields (GPS, author, serial number) are flagged in red. Others are shown for completeness. When in doubt, run the file through the Universal Scrubber to strip everything.
Does the viewer work on video files? ▾
Currently images (JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF) and documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX). Video metadata support is on the roadmap.
Is any data sent to your servers? ▾
None. The viewer runs entirely in your browser — open your browser’s network tab while using it and you’ll see zero outbound requests for your file.
